April 24th, New Zealand Day 9

These photos I took on Day 9 of my tour and they are primarily from the area around the city of Nelson.

Before I set out with 3 others riding, including a guide, I felt compelled to take this photo of a chicken. 

While riding, I took this photo of the scenery just to the north of Nelson. 

While riding up a mount, I took this photo which is a view of the Malborough Sounds on the north end of the South Island. 

After riding for a bit, we stopped on top of a mount where we had tea and cookies, where I took this shot. 

This, and the next photo, are a panorama of some of the mountains that lie close to the Malborough Sounds.

This is me on another high horse. This was the horse that gave me some of the best riding I have ever done. 

This is the landscape from the top of a mount looking back towards Nelson. 

This is an interesting clocktower in Nelson's city center which I believe is attached to City Hall. 

This is the steeple at the back of Christ Church Cathedral on top of Church Hill. This structure, built in the 1950s, dominates the skyline of Nelson. 

This is Photo 1 of 9 of the mountains which form Abel Tasman National Park, as seen from the shore beside Nelson, which sitis just across the bay. I believe that locally it is just known as the Abel Tasman and that is how I refer to it. If I'm not mistaken the rock in the water in Photo 9 is known as Clasher Rock, named in honour of a ship that crashed into it a long time ago.

This is a close-up of some distant high peaks in Abel Tasman National Park. 

This is another close-up of some of the higher peaks in the Abel Tasman. 

This is a statue dedicated to sailors. It is located near the port of Nelson and is along the coastal walk to the western parts of the city. 

This is the closest thing to the fires of Mount Doom that we have. In this workshop, the late Jens Hanses produced the several examples of the One Ring and here you can still buy replicas. 

This is the entrance to Christ Church Cathedral atop Church Hill, which actually faces away from the city. 

This is what Nelson's city center looked like from Church Hill. Christ Church Cathedral is behind me. 

This is what the mountains of Abel Tasman National Park looked like at sunset.
